Sayyed Nasrallah on Ashura: We Are Power that Enemy Still Does not Know

Sayyed Nasrallah on Ashura: We Are Power that Enemy Still Does not Know

Tens of thousands of Imam Hussein lovers joined the unified march organized by Hezbollah in the Southern Suburbs of Beirut to mourn Imam Hussein, renew their vows and pledges to stay on his path, and express support for the Islamic Resistance and renunciation of the “Great Satan” America and the occupying entity Israel.

After the march, people headed to Al-Raya Stadium where Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah was scheduled to deliver a speech after the commemoration.

However, unlike always, and as he was expected to deliver his speech via video link for the usual security reasons, Sayyed Nasrallah surprised the crowds by appearing among them on ground and saluting them.

Sayyed Nasrallah hasn’t appeared in public since the swap deal that took place in July 2008, when Samir Qintar and the four resistance fighters were released from the Israeli prisons.

His Eminence greeted the people and went on stage where he delivered a short statement saying: “I loved to be with you for a few minutes, even though I love to be with you always… On the 10th day of Muharram I wanted to join you so that we reiterate together and let the world hear our firm stance and vow to Imam Hussein who stood alone on this day confronting 30,000 people, and corroborated his father Imam Ali bin Abi Taleb (as) who used to say: “By Allah, if I confront them while they are of large numbers and I’m alone, I would neither care nor repel.” When Hussein was put before two choices either fight or humiliation, and how far, how impossible, that we be humiliated…”

Forever, and no matter how much the challenges and dangers were, we tell all those who wager on scaring us or threatening us, that we are the friends of Abi Abdullah Al-Hussein (as) who says “How impossible that we be humiliated”.”

“My brothers and sisters, on the 10th day of Muharram, we renew our vow to Hussein (as) and tell him like his friends told him on the eve of the 10th of Muharram: “How could we stay after you… how unpleasant is life after you Hussein. By Allah if I was killed, then burned, then scattered into the air, then brought back to life, then I fight, get killed, then get burned again, and scattered into the air again, and the same thing gets done to me a 1000 times, I would not leave you o Hussein!”

Sayyed Nasrallah concluded his word on stage to appear via video link after a few minutes and deliver the whole speech:

In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, most Merciful

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and peace be upon our Master and Prophet Mohammad Bin Abdullah, his virtuous household, and good friends, and upon all the prophets and messengers.

Peace be upon you my Master Imam Hussein the son of Allah’s prophet, and upon all the souls, that were martyred along with you…

First of all, I thank you all for this mass, for loyalty, pledge, commitment, and patience… and I ask Allah that he accepts all your efforts.

I join you on the 10th day of Muharram, the martyrdom day of Abi Abdullah Al-Hussein, his household, friends, to console the Prophet and his household (PBUT), our Imams, Imam Mahdi the grandson of Imam Hussein (may Allah hasten his appearance) and his deputy the leader Imam Khamenei, as well as all our scholars and all the Muslims who follow the prophet.

We yearly commemorate this day to renew our path, commitment, faith, vow, firmness, insistence, and strong desire to continue on this path that was taken by the all the prophets, messengers, guardians, and good ones.

Millions were martyred on this track, and Karabala is a major point in this good, historic path that will stay remembered until the Judgment day.

My brothers and sisters I will tackle some political issues on this day, as we have to warn and remind that the real threat to this nation, with all its countries, people, and governments, is the American, Israel project. It is the American administration no matter who its president was, and the enemy that is occupying Palestine violating the sanctities, assaulting the Palestinian people and the people of this nation. The greatest robber of our nation’s wealth is the American and Israeli.

Our peoples should always be aware of this truth and should not be deceived by this new American fraud. The Americans tried throughout this year to present themselves and defenders of human rights and democracy in the Arab world, those hypocrites and deceivers, who we all know and are aware of their history in supporting dictatorships, as all those dictatorships that were toppled were supported by the US Administration on the political, media, intelligence, military and every level.

Even when the people revolted and America found that its followers were toppling one after the other, it abandoned them. Do you know my brothers and sisters that these are the manners of Satan based on the Holy Quran? Satan does this on the Judgment day, when his followers reach a dead end; he abandons them, and acts like he does not have anything to do with it. What assures the American Administration’s satanic manners is that it deserts its followers, allies, and tools at the first crossroad, and looks for its own benefits and on ways to reduce its losses. Our people in the Arab and Muslim world should know that this US administration is the enemy and the threat. Didn’t we listen to (US) President (Barack) Obama a few days ago addressing the Jewish Lobby and organizations in America and telling them that “the help that my administration has given to Israel’s security was not given by any preceding administration,” and this is true. Even more, in Obama’s period, the CIA transferred from a major American intelligence organization into an intelligencer that works in Lebanon for the Mossad and the Israeli security apparatuses, and gives information about the mujahedeen who seek to find storage for their arms, and about locations and homes of officials. The American security apparatuses transferred to small agents that serve the security of Israel and defend Israel.

O people and political forces, don’t be deluded by the American Administration as it is the one occupying your Palestine, violating your Al-Quds, threatening your Holy mosque, and it is the one responsible, even before the enemy, of holding thousands of Palestinians in prisons, and of displacing, torturing, and besieging them in Gaza and the West Bank. This is America, so we should remember on the 10th of Muharram, not to err the enemy and not to err the friend. Only that with a blind insight errs the enemy and the friend.

The enemy is this American Administration and its “tool” not “ally” in the region, Israel, which it uses as a spearhead to humiliate and oppress the Arabs and the Muslims, and to impose the American desire on the Arabs and the Muslims in order to guarantee a market for its arms and steal their oil, and this should stay in mind.

Second, also in this context we should all be aware that after the failure of the American Administration’s former project of “the new Middle East”, which was defeated by the resistance in Lebanon, Palestine, and Iraq, and by the awareness of the people of this region and the resisting countries at the head of which is Iran and Syria; it awakened with the rising of the Arab people and revolutions, and revived the Middle East project again, but this time from another gate, the gate of internal conflicts and sectarian incitements, because this is the only remaining choice for America and Israel to return its control over the region.

In this context, we have assured, and we reassure that we should avoid any sectarian or inciting speech, because it serves Israel and America, and the enemy of this nation. We are all supposed to respect each others’ sanctities, and here I emphasize Imam Khamenei’s Fatwa which requires us to respect all the sanctities and all the symbols of every sect.

Third, in this context, I speak about Al-Quds, which is the central cause and center of conflict in this region, and I warn on this day of the Judification taking place there. Every day, steps are being taken to entirely Judify Al-Quds.

Yesterday, homes were demolished East Al-Quds, and every day, they take decisions to build thousands of settlements, and now there are parts of Al-Aqsa mosque that are under threat because of the destructions taking place there. What we fear and we should fear is that while the Arab people are busy with their internal problems, Israel will take advantage of this opportunity and strike Al-Quds with a decisive blow. But anyway, this would be the greatest stupidity that Israel does since the entity’s establishment, yet the peoples should be aware and present because of these threats on the sanctities.

Palestine should always remain the first central cause no matter how much the situation worsens, and the conflicts increase. This is what we believe in and work for.

Regarding the Arab peoples’ options, we wager on these peoples’ awareness.

Today in Tunisia, the people triumphed over their tyrant, conducted elections, and hopefully, the political forces will meet the expectations of the honorable, dear Tunisian people.

The people in Libya triumphed over their tyrant, and the political forces there are also responsible of meeting the expectations of the people that presented thousands of martyrs.

In Yemen, the challenge is ongoing, and there are parts that are trying to divide Yemen and restore the sectarian atmosphere there, in order to end the revolution and its aspirations.

In Bahrain, the people are still going on with their peaceful movements, despite all the oppression, deception and hypocrisy. They are insisting on attaining their national, legitimate goals.

In Egypt, major changes that shook Israel and urged Barak to have worries about them took place. We all have hope in Egypt, because any real transformation in Egypt for the sake of the nation and Palestine, will change Israel’s strategic atmosphere in the region, would limit Israel’s options in the region, and put it in front of a critical situation that threatens its existence. This is the great challenge for the Egyptian political forces that will win in the elections and form the new authority. The challenge of Palestine, Al-Quds, Gaza, Camp David, and the country's stance from this entity.

Our hope is that the Arab peoples would not be deceived or deluded by all the American hypocrisy, and when they get over their internal problems, they will go back to their normal position which is confronting this central cause.

Those Americans have failed, and are failing.

And from here I will talk about Iraq, then Syria and after that Lebanon.

In Iraq, today and in the coming few days, the American withdrawal from Iraq is supposed to be completed. There is a real American defeat in Iraq as the Americans did not go into Iraq to later leave it. Their aim was to stay in Iraq, control it, and establish military bases secured for tens of years in Iraq; but the courageous Iraqi resistance, the firmness of the Iraqi people as well as the political powers, and the high cost of the American occupation in Iraq forced it to take another choice which is withdrawal.

I would also like to point out that the Iraqi resistance’s operations did not receive any Arab or international media coverage, and that many of the resistance factions used to send videos or DVDs about their strong operations to Arab and international satellites, but they used to ignore them. A big part of the Iraqi resistances’ operations were concealed in favor of the American army and Administration’s morale, and this reveals the nature of these satellites that are controlling media in the Arab and Islamic world.

Anyway, what happened and is happening in Iraq is a real defeat that the resistance forces as well as the sacrificing Iraqi people should celebrate. Even if there are some remarks on the conclusion, but in general, there is a great historic victory that was attained by Iraqi people and resistance, and this should be revealed and presented to all the people in the region.

When Israel is defeated in Lebanon and in Gaza, this means Israel is beatable, and when America is defeated in Iraq, this means America is beatable. Just like it was beaten in Iraq, it could be beaten in any other country, but the Americans want to conceal this defeat.

In this context, what is happening in our region, the events in Syria, threats to Iran, story about the Saudi Ambassador in Washington, and all these issues are to occupy the people in the region away from recognizing that the American that presented himself as a sole superpower in the world was defeated by the youth and the Mujahedeen of Iraq.

Unfortunately, I say that the Americans have succeeded in that. If you open the Arab and international satellites you will not find any news about the withdrawal from Iraq, no picture about the tanks’ or the army’s pullout, knowing that yesterday I read in a newspaper the number of American soldiers who are still present in Iraq.

How did 150,000 soldiers pullout from Iraq without anyone recognizing or even knowing about the issue? They did succeed in that.

All the satellites today speak about Syria first, then Egypt, then Libya, then Tunisia, then Yemen, etc… and sometimes, a very small news about the withdrawal from Iraq is reported. This is not an accident, it is intentional.

Therefore, the responsibility of the resisting forces in the Arab and Islamic world today, especially in Iraq, as well as the Iraqi people, and the Iraqi and Arab media is to reveal this truth.

On the 10th day of Muharram, we ask God to bless a historic occurrence in which blood triumphed over sword. The Iraqi people that were fighting with a rifle, an RPG, and a Katyusha were able to defeat the most powerful army in the world. If the Israeli army is the most powerful army in the region, then the American army is the most powerful army in the world, yet it was defeated in a few years. It was defeated by blood, Jihad, resistance, insistence, and firmness.

Today what is important is that we be aware of the phase that comes after the American pullout from Iraq, and of America’s satanic mind as well as the sectarian project it is working on in the region. This also depends on the awareness and dialogue of our brothers in Iraq, as well as their concern over their country.

Here, we reach the part on Syria. Our stance has been clear since the beginning. We support reforms in Syria, and support a regime that resisted and opposed, and supported the resistance movements in the region. We say yes for treating all the causes of corruption, and yes for all the reforms that where approved by the Syrian leadership and demanded by the people, but there are some who neither want reforms, nor security, stability, civil peace, and dialogue in Syria, and rather want to destroy Syria.

They want to substitute their defeat in Iraq, knowing that Syria had a role in defeating them, as well as their possible strategic loss in Egypt, by changing the situation in Syria.

The so-called National Syrian Council that was formed in Istanbul, and that some Western countries consider legitimate, has a chief who is Burhan Ghalyoun. Two days ago Ghalyoun said that “if we change the regime and gain power in Syria we will cut our ties with Iran and with the resistance movements in Lebanon and Palestine,” naming Hezbollah and Hamas. These are all credits for the America and Israel.

And when he was asked about the Golan Heights, he said he will refer to the international community. After 20 to 30 years of failed efforts by the UN, these come out today aiming at ending Syria’s relation with the resistance movements and returning to the international community.

What is worse is that one of the leaders who is related to an Islamic organization in Syria, said that when we change the situation in Syria, we well cross the borders into Lebanon and punish Hezbollah. All these are credits to America and Israel, because Hezbollah is their enemy, it is the one that defeated Israel.

I state this before the Syrian people, and before the Lebanese people who say that we are misreading the situation in Syria. The past two days have assured to us that we have been reading the situation correctly and that the main target is the resistance movements in the region. What is demanded in Syria is not the reforms but rather a betraying Arab regime that is submissiveto America and Israel.

We say that we call for peace, stability, and dialogue in Syria, and we condemn all the sanctions that were imposed on Syria, and all types of sectarian incitements.

And of course, I remind all those who threaten of using arms, that your ships were destroyed on the coasts of Beirut.

About Lebanon, amid regional developments, we always insist that we don’t deal with the Lebanese situation on the basis that it is separate from the region. This is basic, and it’s not right for anyone to deal with the Lebanese situation by separating it from the region, for it is deeply connected to it.

We stress on civil peace, rejecting any kind of incitements, and stay patient despite all the accusations and blames that Hezbollah is constantly targeted with, knowing that this is an indication to their fear of Hezbollah.

There are some parts who are trying to stir up incitements in Lebanon, but we reject that, and we should confront it by being aware, wise, and patient….

We call for activating the governmental work and reassure the importance of responding to the rightful demands of the Free Patriotic movement…

We emphasize that the false witnesses file should be dealt with and justice should be attained, because those have not just falsely accused a few people; they also damaged the internal Lebanese situation as well as the Lebanese-Syrian relations, and caused the death of tens of innocent Syrians.

Most importantly is the constant Israeli threat to Lebanon, through the Israeli and CIA agents in Lebanon, the spying devices that are being uncovered gradually by the resistance and the army, and the Israeli violations and assaults.
In this context, we stress on the tripartite axis of power to Lebanon that is the army, people, and resistance.

Moreover, on the 10th of Muharram, I would like to send a new clear message to all those who conspire and wager.
This resistance in Lebanon, with its arms, formation, mujahedeen, mind, culture, and presence will remain, and will not be affected by your conspiracies, collusions, and media, psychological, political and intelligence wars.

We will hold on to our resistance, to the resistance arms, and today I tell you that day after day our number is increasing, our training is improving, and our trust in the future and armament are increasing.

On the arms issue, there is a real fallacy. Some say that the resistance arms are behind the disturbance and instability in Lebanon, but this is a fraud as the arms used in internal conflicts are the Kalashnikov guns, the M-16, and the guns… and these are in the hands of all the Lebanese. Rockets and heavy arms are not used in such incidents. The fact that all the Lebanese parties, families, tribes, individuals have these light weapons is the security problem in Lebanon and not the resistance arms.

Anyone who wants security in Lebanon should make efforts to solve this problem, as for those who want or even think of withdrawing the rockets and defensive weapons, they are actually presenting a favor to Israel, meaning that what Israel failed to achieve in 33 days with the help of the entire world, they are trying to achieve through a dialogue or political talks or media; and I tell you, this will not happen.

On the 10th day of Muharram, the day of decisive and historic choices, I would like to tell the world that we in Lebanon have taken the initiative since 1980. We did not wait for the international community, Arab League, Islamic Conference Organization, or anyone in this world.

With our firm will, desire, youth, men, women, and modest potentials, we resisted, fought, and were martyred, and we returned our land, captives, dignity, and with our resistance, we will preserve our land, dignity, honor, and country, and will defend it against anyone in the world.

Dangers, threats, facts, and changes will not prevent us from performing this duty and this responsibility. We belong to the Imam who stood alone on this day against 30,000 men, and each one of us is not alone in front of these. We are tens of thousands of armed and trained fighters and mujahedeen who are ready to get martyred and are the lovers of Abi Abdullah Al-Hussein (as).

We are a power that the enemy does not know yet, and will never know. It will surprise every enemy with its strong and creative presence in every field it is in.

Therefore, on the 10th day of Muharram we say that the time when we compromise on our dignity, pride, presence, country, land and sanctities is over, and the situation have changed. Therefore, we conclude by renewing our pledge to Imam Hussein (as) and we tell him: O Master and Imam, just as u sacrificed for your great goals, and preferred to be killed along with your household and friends for their sake, we will preserve this path, but we will also triumph by your blood, your mind, and your culture.

Our call and pledge will always be to you on the 10th of Muharram, after everyone was martyred and Imam Hussein stayed alone, yet firm and strong, he did not address the army against him, he rather addressed all the people that have passed and will pass throughout the history asking: “Is there anyone to support me?”

The answer will stay forever with our blood, tears, soul, stance, mind, Jihad, and resistance: “Here I am, at your service o Imam Hussein!”

Mourning the Imam a.s

On the occasion of the first of Muharram (the Muslim New Year and the beginning of 10 days of mourning for the grandson of the Prophet (s.a.), slain at Karbala):
A new year signifies renewal, birth, new beginnings. While the 1st of Muharram marks the new year celebration for many Muslims - for others it marks a time of mourning and contemplation. But this is not an inappropriate activity for a new beginning.
It is a time of looking back at what has passed with the intention of setting right that which has gone astray within ourselves and our society. This is a serious task and a weighty duty, but one which, if approached with the correct intention and attitude, is a deeply satisfying and rewarding activity.

A new year is a new beginning and a beginning is a time for taking great care that one's aims are correct, one's intentions are pure, and that one's energies are correctly directed and not wastefully spent.

What better forum is there than the majlis held to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Husayn (a.s.) for such an activity. Here, we gather as a community for a common cause, all of us in a state of mind receptive to the lessons to be learned from from this incident that we come here to commemorate - an incident that serves all the purposes that a new year is truly meant to serve - to renew us - to provide fresh purpose and a new beginnning.

Karbala is a microcosm. In the events of 10 days, in that one spot on earth, all the great lessons of the Qur'an were brought to life in front of the witness of history - and all those who were (or are today) in doubt that the highest ideals of the Qur'an could be lived up to - all those who felt that the highest Qur'anic ideals were beyond the reach of humans - were in that place on Earth, that Karbala, proved wrong. Doubts were shattered, and the jewels of Qur'anic truth were brought out and displayed in the desert of Karbala, shining with such a light that even today, so many centuries later, our vision is dazzled by those human gems.

Karbala is the Qur'an in action - at Kerbala is to be found a most profound tafsir of the Qur'anic ayats (verses).

And Karbala came at a time when the islam of the Muslim state had deviated dramatically from the Islam of the Prophet (s.a.). It came at a time when the very foundations of the religion were under attack, when the government of that time had become so emboldened, so full of spite for the truth, so drunk with their worldly power and so blind to their own faults and limitations, that they aimed their spears at the hearts of the dearest members of the Prophet's family. The Prophet was gone so they would vent their hatred at his family and at any who stood with them - this while they claimed the Prophet's Islamic heritage for themselves and declared the Prophet's closest family members and companions to be disobedient rebels.

This was a time of great despair for believers. The beauty, justice, and mercy of Islam had been cast aside, the dazzling societal structures created by the first generation of Muslims seemed to be in ruins - the Prophet's former enemies, the Umayyads were kings over the Muslim empire - their self-declared caliphate a mockery of what that office was meant to be and of what it had once been. They were at the summit of their power so they did what they willed, while the Prophet's family were made strangers in their grandfather's own home, disinherited and removed from all worldly power while their spiritual authority was falsely challenged and called into question.

But the Qur'an says: "And we wished to show favour unto those who were oppressed in the land, and to make them Imams, and to make them the inheritors." (Qur'an 28:5)
And at the beginning of the Muslim New Year in the year 61 AH, the greatest act of renewal was begun. The events of the first 10 days of Muharram marked the point of a new beginning for Islam - when what was deviated was set right - when what was wrong was exposed in such a way that the shame of the wrongdoers has been manifested to every succeeding generation - and a weakened Islam was revived, restored, and reconnected with its spiritual and intellectual roots.

"Good is not that your possessions, wealth (and power)...increase, but good is that your knowledge increases and your insight grows more powerful, and that the people are proud to serve God. For when you do good, you praise God...." (Imam Ali)
For us too, this New Year, this Muharram, should be a time of renewal, for setting right what has deviated in us, for strengthening the bonds of community, for looking closely at the deep and profound spiritual and intellectual roots of Islam - and a new beginning with a pure intention for the year to come.

"The Imam asked of the name of this place. Zuhayr said, "It is known as Taff." - Taff means 'bank of a river.' - The Imam asked, "Does it have another name?" The reply was, "It is called Sahil al-Furat." - Sahil al-Furat means 'the bank of the Euphrates.' Again the Imam asked, "Is it known by any other name?" Zuhayr answered, "Yes, it is called Karbala'." On hearing the name of Karbala', the Imam descended from his mount as he said, "O Allah! We seek refuge with you from karb (sorrow) and bala' (tribulation)." (from "Kitab-al-Irshad" by Sheik Mufid)

Denial of access to water

Burayr ibn Hudayr, a companion of the Imam, sought permission to go and speak with 'Umar ibn Sa'd regarding the blockade to prevent the Imam and his companions from obtaining water. On being granted permission Burayr walked straight to 'Umar's tent and sat down in front of him without offering salutations. Umar... said, "Am I not a Muslim and yet you did not greet me as one?"

Burayr replied, "If you had been a Muslim, you would not have raised your sword against the family of the Prophet.... Even the wild dogs consume the water of the Euphrates. Yet you prevent the son of Fatimah and his family from having access to it.... What right do you have after this to assume that you are a Muslim?" 'Umar lowered his head and paused for thought. Then raising his head, he said "O Burayr!... how can I abandon the governorship of Rayy? (this was offered to him as a reward for moving against Husayn) Should I leave Rayy for others to take? By God! My heart will not accept that!" (from "Kitab-al-Irshad" by Shaik Mufid)

Supplication of the Imam

"O' God, You are my trust in every sorrow and my hope in every hardship. How many a heavy burden which weakens the heart and baffles the mind I brought before You with my complaint and You did relieve me of it thereof. You are truly the bestower of every bounty, the source of every blessing and the goal of every desire. You have guided me and shown me the significance of all matters which I face."

Bisakah kita menjadi seorang Karbalai?

Tetapi sesampainya disana, beliau a.s melihat niat jahat pasukan Yazid yang berpura-pura berpakaian ihram tetapi membawa pedang.

Wallahualam bishawab.

Salawat ala Muhammad wa aali Muhammad ........ wa ajil farajahum.....ADRIKNA YA MAHDI

Scholastic Study of Imamate (Definition of Imamate)

This article explains some of the important reasons of the Shi’ah scholars in support of their conception of Imamate and it is divided into two basic parts and the second part is also Divided into three parts:

A. Scholastic Study of Imamate (Definition of Imamate)
B. Rational Argument of the Shi’ah: Imamate is the Basis of Islam

1. Imam Means an Expert in Religious Matters & Infallibility
2. Divine Designation

With a view to make clear the basis of the arguments which the Shi’ah scholars advance in support of their conception of Imamate and to show what others say in this respect, we deem it fit to reproduce with some explanatory remarks a passage written by Khwaja Nasiruddin Tusi. This passage is very precise and the Shi’ah and the Sunni scholars alike have been commenting on it since it was written.

Tajrid is a book written by Khwaja Nasiruddin. A part of this book deals with logic and is called the logic of Tajrid. Another part of it deals with scholastic theology and discusses such questions as Monotheism, Prophethood, Imamate, and the Hereafter etc.

The tone of that section which discusses Monotheism is rather philosophical for in this section Khwaja Nasiruddin has followed the style of the philosophers. A commentary on both the parts of this book has been written by Allama Hilli, whose name also must be familiar to most people. He was not only one of the greatest Shi’ah jurists but also one of the greatest jurists of Islam.

In logic, scholastic theology, philosophy, mathematics etc, he was a pupil of Khwaja Nasiruddin. He learned jurisprudence from Muhaqqiq Hilli, the author of Sharaya, who was also one of the most distinguished Shi’ah jurists. Allama Hilli and Khwaja Nasiruddin are counted among the most talented scholars. Khwaja Nasiruddin is considered to be one of the world class mathematicians also.

Recently newspapers have announced that some parts of the moon have been named after certain Iranian mathematicians, such as Umar Khayyam, Ibn Sina and Khwaja Nasiruddin, who centuries ago advanced some very sound theories about the moon. There is no doubt that Allama Hilli is a genius in his own field that is jurisprudence. He is the author of many books, including one in two volumes named Tazkiratul Fuqaha. When one studies this book, one marvels at the mastery of its author.

Muhammad Qazwini says that when he was in Tehran he used to attend the lectures of Mirza Ashtiyani. Later when he went to Europe, and had a chance to meet several European scholars who were specialists in their subjects, he felt that Mirza Ashtiyani was a specialist in the real sense of the word.

The Tazkiratul Fuqaha is a book that deals not only with Shi’ ah jurisprudence, but in regard to every rule of law it also mentions the opinion of the Sunni schools founded by the four Sunni Imams, namely Abu Hanifah, Shafi’i, Malik and Ahmad bin Hambal, as well as the verdicts of the most prominent jurists preceding the formation of these four Sunni schools. Dealing with every question, it says that Abu Hanifah says so, Shafi’i says so and we the Shi’ ites hold such and such opinion. Sometimes he refutes an opinion. Sometimes, for example, he says that Shafi’i first said so and then changed his opinion and said so.

Shaykh Muhammad Taqi Qummi used to say that when it was decided to publish the Tazkirah, an expert of every Sunni school was called. These experts were astonished to find that Allama Hilli knew more than what they knew about the teachings of their schools. Such an extraordinary man Allama Hilli was!

He compiled a commentary on the Tajrid. That part of it which deals with logic is known as al Jawharun Nazid. It is one of the best books on logic. The scholastic part of the book is named Kashful Murad and is now known by the name of Sharhut Tajrid. Both the parts of Allama Hilli’s commentary on the Tajrid are quite brief in expression. That is why they have again been commented upon subsequently and explanatory notes written on them. Perhaps no book in the Muslim world ever attracted so much attention of the scholars as the Tajrid. This book has been refuted by some and supported by others. No other book has been furnished with so many commentaries and annotations as this book. The reason is that when Khwaja Nasiruddin wants to describe a question from the Shi’ah point of view, he touches it only briefly.

In most cases he hurriedly refers to it and then passes away. In the concluding part of the book he has described the question of Imamate in a manner that has been approved by all Shi’ah scholars, and hence from his description of the question it is easy to understand how the Shi’ah scholars think about this subject.

The book which I have at my disposal at present is Mulla Ali Qushchi’s commentary on the Tajrid. Mulla Ali Qushchi is an eminent Sunni scholar. Naturally he puts forward the Sunni point of view and in most cases refutes that of Khwaja Nasiruddin. Thus in this book the Sunni view has been reflected side by side with the view of Khwaja which of course is the Shi’ah view.

Definition of Imamate

The first thing to be mentioned about Imamate is its definition, about which there is no difference of opinion. It is said that Imamate is the general charge of the religious as well as the secular affairs.
Khwaja Nasiruddin uses a scholastic expression and says that the Imam is a Divine favour (Lutf). What he means is that like Prophethood the question of Imamate is also beyond human control. Hence an Imam cannot be selected by a human decision. Like a Prophet he is to be appointed by Divine ordinance. The only difference is that the Prophet has a direct contact with Allah, whereas an Imam is appointed by the Prophet on receiving Divine instructions.

Islamic Government According to Imam Ali a.s

Upon appointing Malik Al-Ashtar as the governor of Eygpt, Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib [a] sent a letter advising Malik in his post. This letter is an invaluable document highlighting the Imam’s outlook towards government, societal needs and the value and rights of a human being in society. It is a message of significant importance and a reminder to Muslims today of the Islamic viewpoint towards Islamic government.

The Richest Treasure

Be it known to you, O, Malik, that I am sending you as Governor to a country which in the past has experienced both just and unjust rule. Men will scrutinize your actions with a searching eye, even as you used to scrutinize the actions of those before you, and speak of you even as you did speak of them. The fact is that the public speak well of only those who do good. It is they who furnish the proof of your actions. Hence the richest treasure that you may covet would be the treasure of good deeds. Keep your desires under control and deny yourself that which you have been prohibited from, for, by such abstinence alone, you will be able to distinguish between what is good to them and what is not.

Develop in your heart the feeling of love for your people and let it be the source of kindliness and blessing to them. Do not behave with them like a barbarian, and do not appropriate to yourself that which belongs to them. Remember that the citizens of the state are of two categories. They are either your brethren in religion or your brethren in kind. They are subject to infirmities and liable to commit mistakes. Some indeed do commit mistakes. But forgive them even as you would like God to forgive you. Bear in mind that you are placed over them, even as I am placed over you. And then there is God even above him who has given you the position of a Governor in order that you may look after those under you and to be sufficient unto them. And you will be judged by what you do for them.

Do not set yourself against God, for neither do you possess the strength to shield yourself against His displeasure, nor can you place yourself outside the pale of His mercy and forgiveness. Do not feel sorry over any act of forgiveness, nor rejoice over any punishment that you may mete out to any one. Do not rouse yourself to anger, for no good will come out of it.
Do not say: “I am your overlord and dictator, and that you should, therefore, bow to my commands”, as that will corrupt your heart, weaken your faith in religion and create disorder in the state. Should you be elated by power, ever feel in your mind the slightest symptoms of pride and arrogance, then look at the power and majesty of the Divine governance of the Universe over which you have absolutely no control. It will restore the sense of balance to your wayward intelligence and give you the sense of calmness and affability. Beware! Never put yourself against the majesty and grandeur of God and never imitate His omnipotence; for God has brought low every rebel of God and every tyrant of man.

Let your mind respect through your actions the rights of God and the rights of man, and likewise, persuade your companions and relations to do likewise. For, otherwise, you will be doing injustice to yourself and injustice to humanity. Thus both man and God will turn unto your enemies. There is no hearing anywhere for one who makes an enemy of God himself. He will be regarded as one at war with God until he feels contrition and seeks forgiveness. Nothing deprives man of divine blessings or excites divine wrath against him more easily than cruelty. Hence it is, that God listens to the voice of the oppressed and waylays the oppressor.

The Common Man

Maintain justice in administration and impose it on your own self and seek the consent of the people, for, the discontent of the masses sterilizes the contentment of the privileged few and the discontent of the few looses itself in the contentment of the many. Remember the privileged few will not rally round you in moments of difficulty: they will try to side-track justice, they will ask for more than what they deserve and will show no gratitude for favors done to them. They will feel restive in the face of trials and will offer no regret for their shortcomings. It is the common man who is the strength of the State and Religion. It is he who fights the enemy. So live in close contact with the masses and be mindful of their welfare.
Keep at a distance him who peers into the weaknesses of others. After all, the masses are not free from weaknesses. It is the duty of the ruler to shield them. Do not bring to light that which is hidden, but try to remove those weaknesses which have been brought to light. God is watchful of everything that is hidden from you, and He alone will deal with it. To the best of your ability cover the weaknesses of the public, and God will cover the weaknesses in you which you are anxious to keep away from their eye. Unloose the tangle of mutual hatred between the public and the administration and remove all those causes which may give rise to strained relations between them. Protect yourself from every such act as may not be quite correct for you. Do not make haste in seeking confirmation of tale-telling, for, the tale-teller is a deceitful person appearing in the garb of a friend.

The Counselors

Never take counsel of a miser, for he will vitiate your magnanimity and frighten you of poverty. Do not take counsel of a coward also, for, he will cheat you of your resolves. Do not take counsel of the greedy too: for he will instill greed in you and turn you into a tyrant. Miserliness, cowardice and greed deprive man of his trust in God.

The worst of counselors is he who has served as a counselor to unjust rulers and shared their crimes. So, never let men who have been companions of tyrants or shared their crimes be your counselors. You can get better men than these, men gifted with intelligence and foresight, but unpolluted by sin, men who have never aided a tyrant in his tyranny or a criminal in his crime. Such men will never be a burden on you. On the other hand, they will be a source of help and strength to you at all times. They will be friends to you and strangers to your enemies. Choose such men alone for companionship both in privacy and in the public. Even among these, show preference to them who have a habitual regard for truth however trying to you at times their truth may prove to be, and who offer you no encouragement in the display of tendencies which God does not like his friends to develop.
Keep close to you the upright, and the God fearing, and make clear to them that they are never to flatter you and never to give you credit for any good that you may not have done: for, the tolerance of flattery and unhealthy praise stimulates pride in man makes him arrogant.

Do not treat the good and the bad alike. That will deter the good from doing good, and encourage the bad in their bad pursuits. Recompense every one according one’s deserts. Remember that mutual trust and good will between the ruler and the ruled are bred only through benevolence, justice and service. So, cultivate good-will amongst the people; for their good-will alone will save you from troubles. Your benevolence to them will be repaid by their trust in you, and your ill-treatment by their ill-will.

Do not disregard the noble traditions set by our forbearers which have promoted harmony and progress among the people; and do not initiate anything which might minimize their usefulness. The men who had established these noble traditions have had their reward; but responsibility will be yours if they are disturbed. Try always to learn something from the experience of the learned and the wise, and frequently consult them in state matters so that you might maintain the peace and good-will which your predecessors had established in the land.

The Different Classes of People

Remember that the people are composed of different classes. The progress of one is dependent on the progress of every other; and none can afford to be independent of the other. We have the Army formed of the soldiers of God, we have our civil officers and their establishments, our judiciary, our revenue collectors and our public relation officers. The general public itself consists of Muslims and Zimmis and among them of merchants and craftsmen, the unemployed and the indigent. God has prescribed for them their several rights, duties and obligations. They are all defined and preserved in the Book of God and in the traditions of his Prophet.

The army, by the grace of God, is like a fortress to the people and lends dignity to the state. It upholds the prestige of the Faith and maintains the peace of the country. Without it the state cannot stand. In its turn, it cannot stand without the support of the state. Our soldiers have proved strong before the enemy because of the privilege God has given them to fight for Him; but they have their material needs to fulfil and have therefore to depend upon the income provided for them from the state revenue. The military and civil population who pay revenue, both need the co-operation of others -the judiciary, civil officers and their establishment. The Qazi administers civil and criminal law; the civil officers collect revenue and attend to civil administration with the assistance of their establishment. And then there are the tradesmen and the merchants who add to the revenue of the state. It is they who run the markets and are in a better position than others to discharge social obligations. And then there is the class of the poor and the needy, whose maintenance is an obligation on the other classes. God has given appropriate opportunity of service to one and all; and then there are the rights of all these classes over the administration which the administrator has to meet with an eye on the good of the entire population, a duty which he cannot fulfill properly unless he takes personal interest in its execution and seeks help from God. Indeed it is obligatory on him to impose this duty on himself and to bear with patience the inconveniences and difficulties incidental to his task.

The Army

Be particularly mindful of the welfare of those in the army who in your opinion, are staunchly faithful to their God and Prophet and loyal to their chief, and who in the hour of passion can restrain themselves and listen coolly to sensible remonstrance, and who can succor the weak and smite the strong, whom violent provocation will not throw into violent temper and who will not falter at any stage.

Keep yourself in close contact with the families of established reputation and integrity with a glorious past, and draw to yourself men brave and upright in character, generous and benevolent in disposition; for such are the salt of society.
Care for them with the tenderness with which you care for your children, and do not talk before them of any good that you might have done to them, nor disregard any expression of affection which they show in return; for, such conduct inspires loyalty, devotion and goodwill. Attend to every little of their wants not resting content with what general help that you might have given to them, for sometimes, timely attention to a little want of theirs brings them immense relief. Surely these people will not forget you in your own hour of need.

It behooves you to select for your Commander-in-chief one who imposes on himself as a duty, the task of rendering help to his men, and who can excel in kindness every other officer who has to attend to the needs of the men under him, and look after their families when they are away from their homes; so much so, that the entire army should feel united in their joys and in their sorrows. The unity of purpose will give them added strength against the enemy. Continue to maintain a kindly attitude towards them so that they might feel attached to you. The fact is that the real happiness of the administrators and their most pleasant comfort lies in establishing justice in the state and maintaining affectionate relations with the people. Their sincerity of feeling is expressed in the love and regard they show to you, on which alone depends the safety of the administrators.

Your advices to the army will be of no avail, unless and until you show affection to both men and officers, in order that they might not regard the Government as an oppressive burden or contribute to its downfall.

Continue to satisfy their needs and praise them over and over again for what services they have rendered. Such an attitude, God willing will inspire the brave to braver actions and induce the timid to deeds of bravery.

Try to enter into the feelings of others and do not foist the mistake of one over another and do not grudge dispensing appropriate rewards. See to it you do not show favors to one who has done nothing but merely counts on his family position; and do not withhold proper rewards from one who has done great deeds simply because he holds a low position in life.

The Real Guidance

Turn to God and to His prophet for guidance whenever you feel uncertain as to what you have to do. There is the commandment of God delivered to those people who He wishes to guide aright: “O people of the Faith! Obey God and obey His prophet and those from among you who hold authority over you. And refer to God and His prophet whenever there is difference of opinion among you. To turn to God is in reality to consult the Book of God; and to turn to the prophet is t follow his universally accepted traditions.

Chief Judge

Select for your chief judge one from the people who is by far the best among them -one who is not obsessed with domestic worries, one who cannot be intimidated, one who does not err to often, one who does not turn back from a right path once he finds it, one who is not self-centered or avaricious, one who will not decide before knowing full facts, one who will weigh wit care every attendant doubt and pronounce a clear verdict after taking everything into full consideration, one who will not grow restive over the arguments of advocates and who will examine with patience every new disclosure of fact and who will be strictly impartial in his decision, one who flattery cannot mislead or one who does not exult over his position. But it is not easy to find such men.

Once you have selected the right man for the office, pay him handsomely enough, to let him live in comfort and in keeping with his position, enough to keep him above temptations. Give him a position in your court so high none can even dream of coveting it and so high that neither back-biting nor intrigue can touch him.

Subordinate Judiciary

Beware! The utmost carefulness is to be exercised in his selection: for it is this high office which adventurous self-seekers aspire to secure and exploit in their selfish interests. After the selection of your chief judge, give careful consideration to the selection of other officers. Confirm them in their appointments after approved apprenticeship and probation. Never select men for responsible posts either out of any regard for personal connections or under any influence, for, that might lead to injustice and corruption.

Of these select for higher posts men of experience, men firm in faith and belonging to good families. Such men will not fall an easy prey to temptations and will discharge their duties with an eye on the abiding good of others. Increase their salaries to give them a contented life. A contented living is a help to self-purification. They will not feel the urge to tax the earnings of their subordinates for their own upkeep. They will then have no excuse either to go against your instructions or misappropriate state funds. Keep to watch over them without their knowledge, loyal and upright men. Perchance they may develop true honesty and true concern for the public welfare. But whenever any of them is accused of dishonesty and the guilt is confirmed by the report of your secret service, then regard this as a sufficient to convict him. Let the punishment be corporal and let that be dealt in the public at an appointed place of degradation.

Revenue Administration

Great care is to be exercised in revenue administration, to ensure the prosperity of those who pay the revenue to the state; for it is on their prosperity depends the prosperity of others, particularly the prosperity of the masses. Indeed, the state exists on its revenue. You should regard the proper upkeep of the land in cultivation as of greater importance than the collection of revenue, for revenue cannot be derived except by making the land productive. He who demands revenue without helping the cultivator to improve his land, inflicts unmerited hardship on the cultivator and ruins the State. The rule of such a person does not last long. If the cultivators ask for reduction of their land cess for having suffered from epidemics or drought or excess of rains or the barrenness of the soil or floods damaging to their barrenness of the soil or foods damaging to their crops, then, reduce the cess accordingly, so that their condition might improve. Do not mind the loss of revenue on that account for that will return to you one day manifold in the hour of greater prosperity of the land and enable you to improve the condition of your towns and to raise the prestige of your state. You will be the object of universal praise. The people will believe in your sense of justice. The confidence which they will place in you in consequence will prove your strength, as they will be found ready to share your burdens.
You may settle down on the land any number of people, but discontent will overtake them if the land is not improved. The cause of the cultivator’s ruin is the rulers who are bent feverishly on accumulating wealth at all costs, out of the fear that their rule might not last long. Such are the people who do not learn from examples or precedents.

Clerical Establishment

Keep an eye on your establishment and your scribes; and select the best among them for your confidential correspondence such among these as possess high character and deserve your full confidence, men who may not exploit their privileged position to go against you and who may not grow neglectful of their duties and who in the drafting of treaties may not succumb to external temptation and harm your interests, or fail to render you proper assistance and to save you from trouble, and who in carrying out their duties can realize their serious responsibilities, for he who does not realize his own responsibilities can hardly appraise the reprehensibilities of others. Do not select men for such work merely on the strength of your first impressions of your affection or good faith; for as a matter of fact; the pretensions of a good many who are really devoid of honesty and good breeding may cheat even the intelligence of rulers. Selection should be made after due probation which should be the test of righteousness. In making direct appointments from people, see to it that those selected possess influence with the people and who enjoy the reputation of being honest; for such selection is agreeable to God and the ruler. For every department of administration, let there be a head, whom no trying task might cause worry and no pressure of work annoy.

And remember that every weakness of any one among your establishment and scribe which you may overlook will be written down against you in your scroll of deeds.

Trade and Industry

Adopt useful schemes placed before those engaged in trade and industry and help them with wise counsels. Some of them live in towns, and some move from place to place with their wares and tools and earn their living by manual labor. Trade and Industry are sources of profit to the State. While the general public is not inclined to bear the strain, those engaged in these professions take the trouble to collect commodities from far and near, from land and from across the sea, and from mountains and forests and naturally derive benefits.

It is this class of peace loving people from whom no disturbance need be feared. They love peace and order; indeed they are incapable of creating disorder. Visit every part of the country and establish personal contact with this class, and inquire into their condition. But bear in mind that a good many of them are intensely greedy and are inured to bad dealings. They hoard grain and try to sell it at a high price; and this is most harmful to the public. It is a blot on the name of the ruler not to fight this evil. Prevent them from hoarding; for the Prophet of God -Peace be upon him – had prohibited it. And see to it that trade is carried on with the utmost ease, that the scales are evenly held and that prices are so fixed that neither the seller nor the buyer is put to a loss. And if inspite of your warning, should anyone go against your commands and commit the crime of hoarding, then deal him appropriately with severe punishment.

The Poor

Beware! Fear God when dealing with the problem of the poor who have non to patronize, who are forlorn, indigent and helpless and are greatly torn in mind -victims of the vicissitudes of Time. Among them there are some who do not question their lot in life not withstanding their misery, do not go about abegging. For God’s sake, safeguard their rights; for on you rests the responsibility of protection. Assign for their uplift a portion of the state exchequer (Baitul-mal), wherever they may be, whether close at hand or far away from you. The rights of the two should be equal in your eye. Do not let any preoccupation slip them from your mind; for no excuse whatsoever for the disregard of their rights will be acceptable to God. Do not treat their interests as of less importance than your own, and never keep them outside the purview of your important considerations, and mark the persons who look down upon them and of whose conditions they keep you in ignorance.

Select from among your officers such men as are meek and God fearing who can keep you properly informed of the condition of the poor. Make such provision for these poor people as shall not oblige you to offer an excuse before God on the Day of Judgment; for, it is this section of the people more than any other which deserves benevolent treatment. Seek your reward from God by giving to each of them what is due to him and enjoin on yourself as a sacred duty the task of meting the needs of such aged among them as have no independent means of livelihood and are averse to seek alms. And it is the discharge of this duty that usually proves very trying for ruler, but is very welcome to societies which are gifted with foresight. It is only such societies or nations who truly carry out with equanimity their covenant with God to discharge their duty to the poor.

Open Conferences

Meet the oppressed and the lowly periodically in an open conference and, conscious of the divine presence there, have a heart-to-heart talk with them, and let none from your armed guard or civil officers or members of the police or the Intelligence Department be by your side, so that the representatives of the poor might state their grievances fearlessly and without reserve. For I have the Prophet of God saying that no nation or society will occupy a high position in which the strong do not discharge their duty to the weak. Bear with composure any strong language which they may use, and do not get annoyed if they cannot state their case lucidly, even so, God will open you his door of blessings and rewards. Whatever you can give to them, give it ungrudgingly, and whatever you cannot afford to give, make that clear to them in utmost sincerity.

There are certain things which call for prompt action. Accept the recommendations made by your officers for the redress of the grievances of the clerical staff. See to it that petitions or applications that are submitted for your consideration are brought to your notice the very day they are submitted, however much your officers might try to intercede them. Dispose off the day’s work that very day, for the coming day will bring with it its own tasks.

Communion with God

And do not forget to set apart the best of your time for communion with God, although every moment of yours is for Him only, provided it is spend sincerely in the service of your people. The special time that you give to prayer in the strict religious sense is to be devoted to the performances of the prescribed daily prayers. Keep yourself engaged in these prayers both in the day and in the night, and to gain perfect communion, do not as far as possible, let your prayers grow tiresome. And when you lead in congregational prayer, do not let your prayer be so lengthy as to cause discomfort to the congregation or raise in them the feeling of dislike for it or liquidate its effect: for in the congregation there may be invalids and also those who have to attend pressing affairs of their own.

When I had asked of the Prophet of God on receiving an order to proceed to Yaman, how I should lead the people there in prayer, he said -perform your prayers even as the weakest among you would do; and set an example of consideration to the faithful.
Aloofness not desirable

Alongside of the observance of all that I have said above bear one thing in mind. Never for any length of time keep yourself aloof from the people, for to do so is to keep oneself ignorant of their affairs. It develops in the ruler a wrong perspective and renders him unable to distinguish between what is important and what is not, between right and wrong, and between truth and falsehood. The ruler is after all human; and he cannot form a correct view of anything which is out of sight. There is no distinctive sign attached to truth which may enable one to distinguish between the different varieties of truth and falsehood. The fact is that you must be one of two things. Either you are just or unjust. If you are just, then you will not keep yourself away from the people, but will listen to them and meet their requirements. On the other hand, it you are unjust, the people themselves will keep way from you. What virtue is there in your keeping aloof? At all events aloofness is not desirable especially when it is your duty to attend to the needs of the people. Complaints of oppression by your officers or petitions for justice should not prove irksome to you.
Make this clear to yourself that those immediately about and around you will like to exploit their position to covet what belongs to others and commit acts of injustice. Suppress such a tendency in them. Make a rule of your conduct never to give even a small piece of land to any of your relations. That will prevent them from causing harm to the interests of others and save you from courting the disapprobation of God and Man.

Deal justice squarely regardless of the fact whether one is a relation or not. If any of your relations or companions violates the law, mete out the punishment prescribed by law however painful it might be to you personally; for it will be all to the good of the State. If at any time people suspect, that you have been unjust to them in any respect disclose your mind to them and remove their suspicions. In this way, your mind will get attuned to the sense of justice and people will begin to love you. It will also fulfill your wish that you should enjoy their confidence.

Peace and Treaties

Bear in mind that you do not throw away the offer of peace which your enemy may himself make. Accept it, for, that will please God. Peace is a source of comfort to the army; it reduces your worries and promotes order in the State. But Beware! Be on your guard when the peace is signed; for, certain types of enemies propose terms of peace just to lull you into a sense of security only to attack you again when you are off your guard. So you should exercise the utmost vigilance on your part, and place no undue faith in their protestations. But, if under the peace treaty you have accepted any obligations, discharge those obligations scrupulously. It is a trust and must be faithfully upheld and whenever you have promised anything, keep it with all the strength that you command, for whatever differences of opinion might exist on other matters, there is nothing so noble as the fulfillment of a promise. This is recognized even among non-Muslims, for they know the dire consequences which follow from the breaking of covenants. So never make excuses in discharging your responsibilities and never break a promise, nor cheat your enemy. For, breach of promise is an act against God, and none except the positively wicked acts against God.

Indeed divine promises are a blessing spread over all mankind. The promise of God is a refuge sought after even by the most powerful on earth; for there is no risk of being cheated. So, do not make any promise from which you may afterwards offer excuses to retract; nor do you go back upon what you have confirmed to abide by; nor do you break it, however galling it may at first prove to be. For, it is far better to wait in patience for wholesome results to follow than to break it out of any apprehensions.

Beware! Abstain from shedding blood without a valid cause. There is nothing more harmful than this which brings about one’s ruin. The blood that is willfully shed shortens the life of a state. On the Day of Judgment it is this crime for which one will have to answer first. So, beware! Do not wish to build the strength of your state on blood; for, it is this blood which ultimately weakens the state and passes it on to other hands. Before me and my God no excuse for willful killing can be entertained.

Murder is a crime which is punishable by death. If on any accord the corporal punishment dealt by the state for any lesser crime results in the death of the guilty, let not the prestige of the stage stand in any way of the deceased relations claiming blood money.

Last Instructions

Do not make haste to do a thing before its time, nor put it off when the right moment arrives. Do not insist on doing a wrong thing, nor show slackness in rectifying a wrong thing. Perform everything in its proper time, and let everything occupy its proper place. When the people as a whole agree upon a thing, do not impose your own view on them and do not neglect to discharge the responsibility that rests on you in consequence. For, the eyes of the people will be on you and you are answerable for whatever you do to them. The slightest dereliction of duty will bring its own retribution. Keep your anger under control and keep your hands and tongue in check whenever you fall into anger, try to restrain yourself or else you will simply increase your worries.

It is imperative on you to study carefully the principles which have inspired just and good rulers who have gone before you. Give close thought to the example of our prophet (peace be upon him), his traditions, and the commandments of the Book of God and whatever you might have assimilated from my own way of dealing with things. Endeavor to the best of your ability to carry out the instructions which I have given you here and which you have solemnly undertaken to follow. By means of this order, I enjoin on you not to succumb to the prompting of your own heart or to turn away from the discharge of duties entrusted to you.

I seek the refuge of the might of the Almighty and of His limitless sphere of blessings, and invite you to pray with me that He may give us together the grace willingly to surrender our will to His will, and to enable us to acquit ourselves before Him and His creation; so that mankind might cherish our memory and our work survive. I seek of God the culmination of his blessings and pray that He may grant you and me His grace and the honor of martyrdom in His cause. Verily, we have to return to Him. I invoke His blessings on the Prophet of God and his pure progeny.
